Why the fiber decides the method

Area rugs are often a real investment and a centerpiece of the room, and they aren't all made the same way. A method that's safe for a synthetic rug can damage wool or silk. Our technicians are trained in fiber identification and will tell you whether your rug is high-end wool or silk or a more conventional nylon or synthetic blend, and how it should be cleaned.

Wool and silk rugs: facility cleaning

Wool, silk and oriental rugs are picked up by our technician and taken to a dedicated rug cleaning facility, where they go through an 8-step cleaning process. When the rug is done we deliver it back and put it in place the way you want it.

Synthetic rugs: on-site cleaning

Many rugs can be cleaned right in your home. That involves thorough vacuuming, then steam cleaning and eco-friendly solutions as needed for stains, followed by full extraction.

Rug pads and pet accidents

When a pet has had accidents on a rug, the pad underneath usually holds the odor too. We can clean the pad as a separate service. See pet odor removal.

Protectant

You can have a protectant applied that's suited to your rug's fiber. It helps the rug resist stains and stretch the time between professional cleanings.

Caring for your rug between cleanings

• Vacuum regularly, and avoid catching fringe in the brush roll
• Blot spills right away with a clean white cloth rather than rubbing
• Rotate the rug occasionally so wear and sun fading are even
